October 19: a tragic date in the history of Jewish Mogilev

Понедельник, 19. Октябрь, 2026 - 0:00

🕯 Today marks 85 years since one of the most tragic pages in the history of our city's Jewish community.

On October 19, 1941, the Nazis and their collaborators murdered 3,726 Jews, prisoners of the Mogilev ghetto. Among the victims were men, women, the elderly and children. In those October days most of Mogilev's Jewish population was destroyed.

They were our fellow townspeople. Each had a family, hopes and dreams. All of it was cruelly cut short.

85 years have passed, but we remember. Our duty is to pass this memory on to the next generations, so that such a thing never happens again.

May their memory be a blessing 🕯

When we go on living today, when the Jewish community of Mogilev flourishes, that itself is the memory of those who perished and the victory over Nazism.
